Winter Weather Folk Lore

According to the Farmers' Almanac, there is some weather lore that lets us know if winter will be tough. The article tells us that when any of the following occurs, winter will be cold and snowy!

  • Onions have very thick skins

  • Spiders spin larger than usual webs

  • Lots of acorns are seen on the ground

  • Tree bark is heaviest on the north side of the tree

  • The woolly worm caterpillar has a small rust/orange band

  • Raccoons have thick tails and bright bands

  • Numberous fogs are experienced in August
